I have a stupid question... Why is this expected to be a significant project? Why a project outside of Europe is going to be great news?

Because the "significance" is only with respect to the Nissan/Daimler partnership. It's their most significant joint project so far.

All those factories are being built in the South. Give me a break!

Why ruin a good project by locating where the UAW still has a foothold?

Wonder if this four cylinder engine will fit in any Japanese cars or trucks? BTW, badmigraine, the US Space program was mostly based in the South at places like Huntsville, AL, Cape Canaveral, FL, and who will ever forget "Houston, we have a problem."? So, if you are building engines, why not a place where "rocket science" is familiar?

It seems the only companies willing to take advantage of affordable U.S. labor are from Japan and Europe.
