That is excellent news for Mitsubishi. I hope that more orders will come rolling in.

Nice to see fuel-efficient? aircrafts after a long time. The protype MitsubishiA6M1 Zero fighter made its first flight Apr 1, 1939. Hope things would turn for the better.

great job - but any one want to take bets Boeing won't appeal and say it is not in the national interests of foreigners to be producing planes for use in the US?

"any one want to take bets Boeing won't appeal and say it's not in the national interest for foreigners to be producing planes for use in the US?"
Nah, I'm sure Boeing, which STILL hasn't test flown the Dreamliner, will go crying to the government about this.

Most US aircraft manufacturers like Boeing or Lockheed Martine are in the market of regional jets. However, this is big news for the Canadian Bombardier and the Brazilian Embraer that have share a virtual duopoly in the western regional jet market.

Are they manufacturing these in Japan? Where the hell do they have space to manufacture airplanes in Japan? Is the plant only big as a car plant?

I wonder if this is another "Obama" plan?

This is the return of the Saibatsu. After this, they'll start making Apple Pie.

That would be the YS-11, made in the 1960s (unless they mean jets.)
Good luck to them, if they can get it out.

The plane was redesigned last month and will be mostly aluminum. Only 10% will be composite material; just the tail section.
The PW1000G engine claims to reduce fuel consumption by 15%.
The Bombardier C Series will contain 46% composite materials when it enters service in 2013. It will also use the PW1000G engine.
MITI has been a big supporter of this project with tax money which is kind of a self inflicted wound as Kawasaki does a lot of work for both Embraer and Boeing. However, Mitsubishi is developing the ATD-X Shinshin stealth fighter.

Nice looking beautiful aircraft with Pratt & Whitney PW1000G engine. Other that initial cost at $40 million per copy and less fuel consumption, the aircraft cruise speed is around 515 to 563. Has limited range of 800 to 870 nmi on MRJ 70/90STD and 1400 to1770 nmi for MRJ 90ER /90 LR. Cabin height is higher and rounder compared to Bombardier and Embraer. This is a reliable and comfortable average speed cruiser plane and not a stealth fighter. Mitsubishi Aircraft Corp. is a partnership between majority owner Mistubishi Heavy Industries and Toyota Motor Corporation.
