I believe good manners is fundamental to a healthy workplace. It is never right to act in ways that you would never think of doing in a social setting. When you or others cross the courtesy-line, it's time to revisit the basics of manners and consideration with your organization. When your company has a foundation of good manners, it will encourage your co-workers to act appropriately and it will encourage them to accept nothing less from those around them.

People have to go to school to learn this stuff?

I think a good working relationship with your workmates is more important than manners. I work in a small team and we have mutual respect for each other... and that allows us to have a laugh, poke fun at the boss, etc...

Manners ARE important, but if you don't get on with the people around you all the manners in the world won't make your working day any better.

Always a few inconsiderate, rude or weird colleagues in any reasonably sizeable office.

bad manners aren't just bad form, their bad for business.

I believe that should read : "they're" bad for business...

that sound like one of those "office nazi" who care more about appearance and less about actual work done... If I am to give a half of my day to my job, I will do anything I feel comfortable doing in my office within the reasonable social manners. And yes I come to work in lycra and bike shoes and change....and my phone is with me at all times on the table.. and honestly there not enough see thru dresses worn in the office....

I consider a much worse manner a person not replying to the email or failing to complete assignment on schedule.
