Another blow for Japan's manufacturing.
The Japanese companies know that Fukushima and the high yen are the final nails in the coffin for Japan and are reacting accordingly.

@the high yen are the final nails in the coffin for Japan "
Japanese companies buying properties, businesses overseas only helps to lower the yen. And final nails in the coffin ? Because the economy outside of Japan is so great, like Europe ?

As Hide also pointed out, most world economies are struggling as well. But by creating plants outside Japan, Toyota ensures the world reasonbly-priced Japanese cars available in the world market.

The auto makers seems to think that buyers will buy whatever car they sell regardless of where it is built.
Across the board when it come to cars or clothes, the items cost more but the quality is lacking. Companies must think that the consumers can't tell the differences between quality vs junk. This may work in the short term, but in the long term it will hurt the company when consumers stop buying the product all together.

Elvin, the article is about Nissan.
Their cars are not junk. People would not buy them if they were.

As long as the core components, R&D & knowhow are in the hands of the headquarter, these outpost plants' main function is to conquer overseas market shares ? The alternative is to import more workers from Thailand, the Philippines and the like to assemble cars 'made in Japan', the choice is yours ?
