Nissan to dismiss 780 temp workers

TOKYO —

Nissan Motor Co will dismiss 780 temporary workers provided by staffing agencies at two domestic factories for large vehicles shipped to the United States. Company officials said the job cuts will start in December at its plants in Kanda, in the southwestern Fukuoka Prefecture, and Kaminokawa, Tochigi Prefecture, eastern Japan. The automaker will terminate the workers’ contracts upon expiration, the officials said.

Nissan will take the step as it plans to trim its auto output at the two plants by an additional 65,000 units by next March, 20 to 30 pct less than previously planned, due to sluggish sales in the North American market.

The company’s move indicates that the domestic employment situation is starting to be affected by slumping demand in North America amid the deeping financial crisis.

Nissan currently employs some 2,000 temporary workers in Japan.

Temporary in name only I'm sure, but perfect for this kind of situation where they can just tell them they are fired and they have no means to fight against it. Classy companies these big Japanese car manufacturers.

    SOP for the "keiretsu."

Whether it is temporary workers being let go, or small affiliate companies who suddenly lose all their business, this is the way that the big Japanese companies cope with changes in the market.

    Welcome to Japan Inc..

Adjusted for population growth, N.A. auto sales are down across the board to levels unseen in 25 years. It's coming. Be ready.

I guess with Temp workers they meant "haken shaiin" (派遣社員). Most of which have contracts of about a year which will or will not be renewed then.

So went can expect some of these temp workers going to Akihabara and other places to start cooling down their anger by inflicting harm and damages on other innocent people?
