Nissin to raise commercial flour prices in Nov
TOKYO —
Nissin Flour Milling Inc will raise the prices of three kinds of commercial-use flour, starting with Nov 1 shipments. The company, the core unit of Japan’s leading flour miller group Nissin Seifun Group Inc, decided on the price hike because the government is set to raise prices of the imported wheat it sells to flour mills by 10% on Oct 1.
Prices of flour for use in bread will be raised by an average of 250 yen per 25 kilograms, while prices of all-purpose flour and flour for confectionery will rise by 240 yen, the company said. Nissin Flour Milling last raised the prices of commercial-use flour in April, and this will be the company’s fourth markup since May 2007.
Prices of a number of flour products, such as bread and pasta, are expected to increase.

Japan's 40% self sufficiancy in food is it's achilles heel. While other nations produce what they want in their own backyard Japan must import. Subsequently Japanese consumers are stiffed out of their hard earned yen, which could be going toward other endeavors to alleviate the downward spiral in domestic spending. Viscious cycle, plain and simple !
