Nomura, the global investment bank, has hired Lewis Alexander as managing director and U.S. chief economist.

Alexander was most recently at the U.S. Treasury Department, where he was counselor to the Secretary of the Treasury. Previously he was chief economist with Citibank and earlier worked as a senior economist at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve and at the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Alexander will be based in New York, leading a team of five economists. Nomura said his appointment underscores the importance of the region to its global business and its commitment to provide world class research to its clients.
