Panasonic becomes world's 1st TV maker to roll out 300 millionth TV

TOKYO —

Panasonic Corp on Tuesday rolled out its 300 millionth TV set, which marks the 56th year since the company began producing them in 1952. This makes Panasonic the world’s first TV manufacturer to reach this level of production.

After recording a cumulative production of 100 million sets in 1985, the company began applying in 1988 the Panasonic brand name to all the TVs that it sold in Japan. In 1998, cumulative production of television sets reached the 200-million mark.

On Oct 1, the corporate name was changed to Panasonic Corp, and brand names were unified to Panasonic. In this commemorative year, the company has reached a milestone in its corporate history by achieving production of the 300 million sets. In fact, the company produced 105 million National brand TVs and 195 million Panasonic brand TVs, bringing visual entertainment to people all over the world.

Panasonic began producing black-and-white TVs in November 1952, one year before full-scale TV broadcasting began in Japan. In 1960, the company became the first
manufacturer of color TVs in Japan.

In what, 56 years, they have made 300,000,000 for the world?

That's really not very many at all is it if you think of the worlds population over the last 56-odd years.

    Make it 300,000,000,000 & I'll be impressed;)

During these days of global economic woes from man made bubbles, Panasonic(matsushita) will do well and caters well to low cost or high cost products user.

Panasonic should export more economy cost products to gain from surge in demand in that market globally. The global economy needs high quality economical products to get over its economic bubble woes.

I do believe that Panasonic is in the right business here. As bad as the economy can get that just means that everyone stays home and doesn't go out (to resturants, hobbys, even movies) so if you are not going out but staying at home to save money you need something to keep you entertained at home and that my friend is the TV (the bigger the better) and this is one item that you can justify to spend money on (since you are only buying one every 10 years) and with HD out in both broadcast and video everyone will buy a new big HD LCD TV in the coming year.
