Online marketplace Rakuten will open the Rakuten CAFE in Tokyo's Shibuya district on Thursday, offering customers a menu featuring some of the most popular desserts and snacks from Rakuten Ichiba and allowing customers to experience a variety of Rakuten services such as banking, credit card payments and travel services.

With 85 seats, the cafe, occupying three floors, will serve nine types of sweets which will change with each season, pizzas, bagels, soft drinks, coffee and alcohol. All of them are popular products on Rakuten Ichiba.

Kobo eReaders are located throughout the cafe for customers to freely use, in addition to complementary use of power sockets and mobile phone chargers. In addition, the cafe offers 1GBPS Wifi, free of charge.

Customers can choose from multiple payment methods, including Rakuten Edy touch payments and Rakuten SmartPay mobile credit card payment processing service so you can pay at your table without going to the counter. A concierge is also on duty at all times, ready to answer any questions customers might have about Rakuten services.

The Rakuten group said it is planning to open a second store in Tokyo's Futakotamagawa area next year.

Sounds like an interesting place to check out. I look forward to seeing if they will give us the full Rakuten experience by using actual spam in some of their menu items.
