I wouldn't call it a car though...it would be a small wonder if this thing can pass the strict European safety standards...

More like a 4-wheeled motorcycle with a plastic cover and seating for 1 or 2. And, as ebisen said, they'll be hard pressed to make it safe enough. It's a big achievement, though, if they pull it off.

in 2008, one Indian company made a car for 2000 USD ( 150000 yen) and they have an A/C model cost 3000 USD with a milage of 25 km per litre. NANO car by TATA. They have produced over 100000 cars already!!! If Nissan make an electric car for 3000 EURO then welcome...

Car 2,500-euro, yearly maintenance and service repairs 7,000-euro. Old business trick.

The Munya Times, sure 7,000 euro, old business trick. But do you know what? I will use something like this for a shopping and change it to a new one every two years without reparing while I keep my big car for a hwy driving.

They should just revive the classic R4. Unbeatable contraption, simple, reliable, cheap, ran forever.

@The Munya Times, "yearly maintenance and service repairs 7,000-euro". What is the figure based on ? Your hunch ?

Right on the point, the second car thing is correct, the same came to my mind as well when I hit the submit button. Yet, I let my post go as it might as well be that they intend to aim a different segment of the market or open new markets in some other poorer countries and be a competition for small car makers by attracting the very poor and the very young. Sadly in developed countries the number of the poor is increasing too, yet they might need a car.
The 7,000 euro was pure sarcasm (:-D) I tried to sharpen it up with an exaggeration, namely that they might follow another possible market trend, to sell cars to the very poor on unconquered markets for very cheap and collect the higher price slowly, gradually as the very poor or the very young might not be able to afford saving another 2,500 euro to buy a new one meanwhile the slowly, monthly paid small expenses easily remain unnoticed or more bearable and affordable, yet can grow considerably big after a few years. You know the poor always choose buy cheap things that will cost a lot in the end.
@Hide Suzuki I think that answered your question, too.

The Munya Times, I do not know if Japanese auto executives see our idea, but manufacturing something like this is very profitable.
Have you seen the most recent SMART car? It is for two passengers with a little luggage space in the back. If Japanese auto makers think about making something like this for US consumers, Asian Consumers, it will be a big hit as a price of gas has been sky high.
People can use this to pick up kids from school, go shopping and it is easy to park. The engine does not have to be too big as we can only go up to 45 miles./hr in the city.

Yes, I know them and agreed.
Hard to read the Japanese ecxecutives' mind and without insight here just as my impression, they still believe they will control consumer habits and tell them what to buy, sometimes beyond reasonableness. Today I think it's a good idea to build cars for economy. Also they might mistakenly think that all the rich are off the wall snobbish mugs and willing to waste their money uncounted.

Realmind - The Tata Nano has a very apt nickname, The Tinderbox. Safe engineering cost money, you can only cut so many corners. If sold in a developed market this proposed car would surely cost much more than 2500 Euros.

The Japanese auto industry needs to pay attention to a big message of 99% protesters in US.
Then move manufacturing to Mexico for this kind where the minimum wage is something like $1.87/hr.

globalwatcher, at the price announced I should think production is already earmarked for a $2/hr production base. I can see few employment opportunities in Japan or Europe in this car.
