Seiyu to absorb 5 regional units

TOKYO —

Supermarket operator Seiyu Ltd said Thursday it will absorb its five fully owned regional units next Tuesday. The move is aimed at streamlining the Seiyu group’s store management and information systems, company officials said.

The five units are Hokkaido Seiyu Co, Tohoku Seiyu Co, S.S.V. Inc, Kyushu Seiyu Co and Sunny Co. Following the move, Seiyu, a subsidiary of U.S. retail giant Wal-Mart Stores Inc, will directly supervise all of its 392 outlets across Japan.
