So a temporary 7% paycut and halving a bonus for just a 12 month period will somehow magically restore Sharp,s balance sheet into black and make it into a " reborn" company within the space of a year? Forgive my skepticism but somehow that seems just a bit optimistic, especially with Hon Hai partnership now in doubt. Reality check?

I know Sharp is innovative. They've got this new monstrous IGZO display technology. They just need to be more creative in planning. If they keep on neglecting good planning like they did in the deployment of the display for iphone 5 they will face more consequences more than a junk downgrade.

It is very sad to see a company like Sharp this situation. Sharp has pioneered many technologies like LCD monitor and the camera in the phone.
Companies like copycat SAMSUMG profiting billions of dollars, this is the paradox of today's world.

Sharp has never been an innovative company. It's R and D dept for decades has just been about investigating the innovations of others and getting its engineers to improve on those innovations.
That type of business model, like a lot of present Japanese business practises, is yesterday's news. The pace of tech change is so rapid these days, to compete with the big boys, you have to be an innovator, rather than an improver.
The corporate culture within Sharp has never been one that inspires or attracts innovators and those that do join the company with such intent and talent, often scuttle of to some university post or another within 5 years of joining the company.
It's no coincidence that Sharp HQ in Kaiihim Makuhari is right next to Fujitsu. Both companies are ailed with a fossilized outdated corporate culture that has no hope to change.
Sharp will be gone in the next 12 months, if they don't find a Chinese buyer.

if that were yesterday's news then how do you explain Samsung's success? taking cues from others and improving on their innovations (from Apple to HTC to Sony) is their MO and they've been making good money off it.

Sharp cannot last long if the Yen remains at this super strong level, like all other Japanese exporters, if they are still alive. Writing off a huge amount of losses, will show some improvements relatively in the next two years. After that it will be doom, like Sanyo Electric and many others. BOJ & the FED are the actual stumbling block of Japanese exporters through the Strong Yen, Weak Dollar policy in the last 25 years.

If you don't think that Samsung is one of today's great innovators, you're way out of the loup

lol at issa1.
True innovators don't go bankrupt. Look at Apple, IBM, etc.
Anyway, it's funny, but Japan just can't accept the fact that Korea is passing them by and waving.
Go to any electronics shows that are held throughout the year, every year. Look at the displays set up by Korean companes, versus the thread bare Japanese ones. Then tell us where the innovations are happening.
lol...
