Loss-making electronics firm Sharp Corp plans to cut around 6,000 jobs, over 10% of its workforce, in a global restructuring that will cost over 200 billion yen, a person familiar with the plan said on Thursday.

for the company’s second major bailout since 2012, people familiar with the matter have said

You cannot cut yourself to prosperity. At some point you have to have a vision/a core strength, that can be the foundation for a turn-around. I'm not sure Sharp has this. Smaller is fine, so long as its profitable. I certainly wouldn't lend them any more money.

Exactly. It may be better to help them to survive, though it is really impossible to say how this should be done in this case - Let's not forget they said to be on the brink of bankruptcy just two years ago. Looks like the losses came from several unpredictable circumstances like the oil price plunge and such. Still interesting how Sharp could tank so hard in an environment that actually provided a clear upward trajectory for most other makers.

I take it Sharp is not heeding Abe's call to raise wages.
