Shinsei Bank GoRemit Service: An easy way to send your money abroad

Want to send money abroad but confused about things like bank charges, what to do or where to go? If so, Shinsei Bank has the perfect solution for you. Their well-established GoRemit Shinsei overseas remittance service allows you to send money overseas in a quick, simple and inexpensive way—and is available to any resident of Japan over the age of 20.

GoRemit provides good value with an excellent service that is simple to use. By sending money via ATM, the internet or mobile banking, there is no need to spend your lunch break queuing to fill out forms. You just make a domestic transfer (furikomi) to the GoRemit collecting account and GoRemit does the rest. Transferred money will normally enter the recipient’s account in one to three working days.*1

After the remittance is completed, you will receive an “Advice of Transfer” showing the details of the remittance such as the exchange rate used and how much was sent to the beneficiaries, etc. Additionally, Shinsei’s customer service telephone line, brochures, website and application process are available in both English and Japanese.

GoRemit only charges 2,000 yen per remittance,*2 regardless of the amount sent. You can check the exchange rates of the major currencies offered by visiting their website. If you are registered for the daily rate e-mail, then you can receive notification of the current rates via e-mail every business day. Rates are updated daily just after 10 a.m. and are valid until 3 p.m. that day.

See video on how to use GoRemit.

It’s easy to join. Get started using this three-step guide*3:

Step 1: Register for free. Fill out an application form and post it with a copy of your ID and a utility bill or receipt. Application forms can be downloaded from the website (http://www.goremit.jp/individuals/applyonline/en) or requested over the phone at 0120-227-503 (9 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays).

Step 2: Once you have completed the registration process, you will receive a “Welcome Pack” complete with clear instructions on how to send funds.

Step 3: Send money to the GoRemit domestic collection account via ATM, online, or mobile banking. GoRemit will take care of the rest.

You only need to register beneficiaries once, so if you want to send money abroad regularly to the same recipient, just repeat Step 3. You can register as many beneficiaries as you like.

Take advantage of the Go!Go! GoRemit Winter Campaign, which began on Nov 11 and runs until Jan 31, 2014. Customers who send funds with GoRemit during the campaign period will be entered into a draw in which a total of 150 people will win Amazon Gift Certificates worth from 1,000 yen to 5,000 yen.*4

For more information about the GoRemit service, visit their website at https://www.goremit.jp/index/en or call 0120-227-503 on weekdays 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

1 Remittances may take longer depending on the country, local banking practices and time zone differences. 2 As with any international remittance, intermediary banks will deduct a fee. In addition, beneficiary banks in some countries may also levy a charge. 3 This process applies to individual customers. 4 Amazon.co.jp is not the sponsor of this campaign. I have an account with a major Japanese bank and the actual comapred rate of 3 currentcies rate is a little better with my bank and the charges are the same, the other bank dosent take a fee as they have an agreement in place or its the same no matter which bank. If I have to send the moeny to Go Remit then there is no advantage using this service and less $ at the other end. They need to have some incentive for customers to shift to this service.
