Sony is not going to start buying panels and making their own TV...they are going to just slap their name on some TV's made by Taiwanese companies which produce in China.

Sony officials say the company will simply start buying panels from manufacturers at good prices, and focus on Sony’s own imaging and other technology to differentiate its TVs from rivals.

In other words, they'll take a cheap Chinese-made panel, slap some bells and whistles and their brand on it, and hope consumers are stupid enough to pay an inflated price for it. Great strategy. Might work in Japan, but will just continue their decline in the U.S. and elsewhere.

Don't know why so many people here are so infuriated by Sony :p. Sony has been buying panels for a long time, mind you. Most of LCD panels nowadays are manufactured in Taiwan. TV makers buy panels and introduce their own image processing technologies. And among them, Sony is the best, 'nuf said. Don't compare Sony's products with cheaper Korean ones, that's just ridiculous. When it comes to audio-video, Sony still rules the world. Stop the hate, if you don't like Sony, don't buy their goods, which IMO are worth spending, except the laptops which are geared towards businessmen and lack some features to attract mass consumers.

Sony breaks up with Samsung and has also recently fallen through with Sharp! Guessing which company will become the next guy to have a joint venture with Sony only to see itself in failure.Too bad for Sony but that company needs to do a better job in building trust with other companies!

The only people who praise Sony are the Japanese.Nobody cares about Sony, which is a bygone legend now.blackrock fails to see the reality that the age of Sony is OVER.Of course,I am Korean so I want to see any Korean company win in top positions.

And Japan is so naive to think that Taiwan being so pro-Japanese could be the reason why so many Japanese are investing there and build manufacturing the bases.Taiwanese are very smart and they receive Japanese investments while Koreans are losing Japanese investments due to its stubborn anti-Japan stance. But don't fall into illusion that every Taiwanese loves Japan because they DON'T really love Japan. They want Japanese technology and want to make another "Samsung" in Taiwan version.I have actually talked to some Taiwan people who expressed just as much abhorrence to Japan as Koreans have always been doing.

Japan is the odd man out.Japan likes to think of itself as somewhat pro-Western while both Europe and USA have no desire to accept Japan as a "Western nation".But then is Asia ready to forgive Japan's past misdemeanor during WWII? Not quite.Japan is the one who should untie the knot that has been tied in the first place! Japan has the first class economy with third class politics. How many PMs have been changed over the past few years in Japan?

Oh come on Sony haters, downvote my post some more. Seriously so childish :| . What's the point of coming to a Japanese forum to spread hostility. I myself ain't Japanese, but a Japan admirer and Sony fanboy. I only said the truth, Sony's products are better and you get what you pay for. They have ruled the audio-video industry for decades and now some people just want a change to another brand, or to save a few $. And of course, some are being hostile towards Sony. Stop it already.

Sony hasn't been doing good lately. Sony deserves it.

In other words, they'll take a cheap Chinese-made panel, slap some bells and whistles and their brand on it, and hope consumers are stupid enough to pay an inflated price for it. Great strategy. Might work in Japan, but will just continue their decline in the U.S. and elsewhere.

That's basically what every manufacturers do these days.
