I said months ago that Son'y rosy prediction of a 2012 profit after four years of staggering loses was nothing but Japanese management hot air. Wish I had not been right. Sony is close to be in an irreversable death spiral and needs a major overall -- fast -- before it is too late. But I doubt the current management has the stomach for that. Appearances and process are afterall more important in Japan than actual results.

There isn't a single Japanese electronic company that isn't losing big and cutting jobs right now. Japan is no longer relevant as a consumer electronic industry. They need to abandon this sector and find a new source of work.

I guess it's not as much fun when you have to go up against foreign competition on your home soil coupled with a strong currency. But it sounds familiar....
