Struggling Sony warned on Tuesday it needs to carry out years of reform before it can turn around its battered smartphone arm.

Why bother? While they are struggling, Samsung and Apple are investing billions to keep creating cutting-edge phones. Sony will always be playing catch-up.

Sony's smartphones are terrific gadgets but with too low profile globally. I do see a lot of the Sony handsets in Japan.

maybe with more price-fixing they can make more money. as if they were not expensive enough...

Too late in the game. Stick with what you do best. Concentrate on gaming, entertainment software. It won't be too long before good quality, cheap consoles will emerge from rivals.

I love how everyone is quick to say "dont bother with phones, samsung/apple are better"

I would hate to live in a world where the only choices available are from Apple or Samsung. Really dislike both brands, and Sony (IMO) kills it for camera and waterproofing technologies. Not to mention they FEEL high end, something you cannot say for Samsung.

Here's to hoping they can turn that business around.

Such a shame that an electronics giant like Sony is struggling to keep up with modern technology. I think they just got too greedy and too caught up trying to make their proprietary devices into a global standard. If they had just focused on what they do best: making cool gadgets and electronics, rather than trying to be "innovators", they wouldn't have to struggle so much.

Does anyone know what that means? Sounds like the guys that developed the walkman are now all top tier managers and don't seem to do anything

Take a good look at the Xperia Z3. Then, think about your comment again.

Sony is keeping up with modern technology and if anything it is leading the way when it comes to smartphones, but they really have dropped the ball regarding marketing.

Even here in Japan there just seems to be no advertising.

I agree. It really isn't worth doing. Unless they have the cash to burn. Which I doubt, not after the years of losses. The other electronic companies have all recovered. Even NEC is in the black. Sony should stick with gaming, entertainment, and the odd computer systems(not consumer PCs)

The main problem with Sony is that Sony misses someone like Morita Akio. That's all.
