It became pretty obvious with websites like fuelly.com etc that many of these vehicles were not hitting their marks. It was only a matter of time before the auto manufacturers got called on it.
As bad as this situation is, the Takata air-bag incidents are far worse. -That is a true disaster.

This is not the same as VW where they cheated on purpose. This time is about tests. Japanese efficiency tests are nonsense and gives no real life data. More accurate are US and EU tests where cars drive 100 km/h and simulate hills, stops and starts. Tests in Japan do not allow to speed up more than 60 km/h without any hills simulation or traffic jams.

They should appoint Osamu Toyoda and Osamu Matsuda as soon as possible...
Even if the old man has nominally reduced his role, though, staying on as chairman means he is very likely to continue his 'one-man keiei' I expect. Cosmetic maneouvre.

This stuff has me shrugging. Everybody knows Suzuki is not a technology world beater. Yes they have to comply with regulations. I don't really know anyone who bought a Suzuki based on mileage figures, and a 10% error would amount to ... a bucket of theater popcorn over the course of about a year.
This is a molehill. Not a mountain.
