TOKYO —
Suzuki Motor Corp’s Wagon R minivehicle was Japan’s best-selling vehicle in April, industry data showed Thursday. With sales of 15,480 units, the Wagon R was the bestseller for the fourth straight month, the Japan Automobile Dealers Association and the Japan Mini Vehicles Association said.
Honda’s Fit subcompact car came in second, followed by Daihatsu’s Tanto minivehicle.
While minivehicles and compact cars continued to be popular, boosted by the growing public awareness of fuel efficiency and eco-friendly cars, Toyota’s fully remodeled Crown luxury sedan also enjoyed brisk sales. The Crown rose from ninth position in March to sixth in April.

I hope the Japanese auto industry is ready to start exporting kei cars to the U.S., because we are going to need them by year's end. Once again, just like the '70's, Detroit doesn't seem to be on the ball.

tele, you're exactly right. Unfortunately, Ralph Nader and the NHTSA behemoth that was creadted on his behalf will never allow them. We've got to be able to hit each other without dropping our mobile phones, cigarettes, or lattes.

WhiteHawk, I'm not so sure Nader is to blame.. the NHTSA has done a lot of good (even though there are plenty of corvairs that are still running and perfectly safe, lol), and everyone knows durned-well those Japanese-made keis can pass any U.S. safety inspex.
