The world can thank the US regulators for bringing this change about. Sadly people had to die for it to happen, and hopefully these new suppliers can do a better job!
If this was left up to Japan business it would have been swept under the carpet!

When air bags were proposed as a requirement, opponents pointed out that the only way to inflate one fast enough was by an explosive in the dashboard. Still true today, and changing the chemical composition of the explosive will not likely change the at least occasional misfiring of the bomb in your dashboard.

It's not the misfiring that is the problem here, it's the quality, design, and materials used in the casing that blows up the airbag itself.

Takada brought this on themselves, so I hope Autoliv comes in, Takada continues in the red, and eventually goes bankrupt. They had many, MANY chances and YEARS to change, but due to Japan's current corporate culture the son who felt entitled to his dad's hard work simply because he was his dad's son refused to do anything productive, and helped cover up statistics and failed to release facts. I hope it's too late, and he loses everything.
