Tax hike will not affect Subaru sales, says Fuji Heavy president

The president of Fuji Heavy Industries, Yasuyuki Yoshinaga, says his company will continue the domestic production of Subaru automobiles even after the implementation of the consumption tax hike on April 1.

Yoshinaga said: "Subaru faced a shortage of registered cars since November and December of last year. This however, is not because of a decrease in orders, but instead because the supply was limited."

Yoshinaga went on to explain that, "Even within the American market, over 420,000 Subaru models were sold. However, if there had been more cars available at the dealerships, more could have been sold. That's why in order to meet this demand, we have to speed up our production line.

"Thanks to a joint sales company in China, a record breaking 6,800 Subaru models were sold in December alone. Also, sales have been improving in Malaysia due to knockdown production and business outside America and Japan has been steadily expanding. With all these pluses, we can expect that even after the increase in sales tax, Subaru's domestic operations will not falter at its base."

Too bad American manufacturers don't have these ethics.
