I'm quite sure that the RIAA, that valiant watchdog, will now join the legal action against ABC's acts of piracy. Remember, piracy is theft.

TBS, what jokers. Unless you completely and obviously copy a show format and the title of a show, how can you prove this ? And how can a Japanese broadcaster sue an American broadcaster when terrestrial television is in different languages and different continents ? And why would an American broadcaster copy a Japanese show when their advertising markets and viewers are so totally different to each other ? A successful Japanese show is not going to work in the US. I'd like to see TBS' lawyers try and pull this one off.

Takeshi's Castle has done well getting a decent enough following in the UK on Challenge TV, so I could see it happening.

Challenge TV ? I'd like to see the viewing figures for that. The advertising premium would be extremely low for a TV gameshow that has to be subtitled or dubbed.

They all pale before "El Gran Juego De La Oca"

Oh purleeze! There isn't a single show on Japanese TV today that the Japanese haven't copied from overseas themselves!! This is just another two-faced blatant lie by an organisation who is trying to pull the wool over everyone's eyes! ABC will swallow TBS whole before they even know what hit them!

Like a straight to DVD release of Gray's Anantomy?

There has been a load of bad Japanese games show knock off's on American TV. There's Hole, I survived a Japanese Game Show, wipeout, wanna bet? Horrible horrible tv watching.

  • OgieDoggie at 01:43 AM JST - 8th October

Takeshi's Castle is so much better than Wipeout anyways.

But that's because the civil Liability laws (peresonal injury) are so much less in Japan than in the U.S. because you know some people have suffered some serve injuries on Takeshi's Castle (but that's what makes watching Takeshi's Castle so much fun...when you see that contestant fall down or hit the wall and we don't see the footage of them getting backup..you know they knocked something out of place).

Takeshi's Castle was the top rated show on Challenge TV for over two years. It's now shown on other satellite channels and adapted Japanese origin game shows are popular in the UK. ABC should be ashamed of their plae imitation of a TV great.

  • motytrah at 03:05 AM JST - 14th October

As stated in the article Takeshi's Castle became Most Extreme Elimination Challenge in the US. It only aired on cable and had modest ratings. That being said, TBS doesn't know squat about US television or lawsuits in the US. Networks copy show concepts all the time in the US. It's doubtful they'll get much.
