This is amusing. I can't wait for then next two years to pass, so I can laugh out loud over the pathetic belly flop this electric car movement is going to make. The technology is not ready. The product has no market. And the source of fuel (electricity made by coal) is not green.

Who killed the electric car? Reality did. It killed it and then dry-humped the corpse. And I'm someone who has driven electric vehicles by 6 different corporations, so I have a little bit of knowledge on the subject.

(electricity made by coal) Bebert61 - interesting point. But how much of Japan's electricity is produced from coal?

Wikipedia's info is dated, but from a slightly more recent source, as of 2007:

"less than 10 percent of electricity produced currently is oil-generated. The number of natural gas-fired power stations is increasing in Japan and roughly 30 percent of electricity is natural gas-fired. Coal remains an important fuel source and accounts for roughly 25 percent of electricity generation."

More than I would have imagined.

These Tesla cars are great - fast, quick off the line, and powerful - but way too expensive - unless you're in the market for a BMW 700 series. Even the Leaf is a bit expensive but at least the source of fuel is not oil so the gas companies won't be getting too much of my money.

And the pollution at the source of fuel for the electricity be it coal, nuclear, wind, or natural gas can be more easily controlled than a billion cars running around. And I've see YouTube videos of electric vehicles by three different corporations so I have very little knowledge on the subject.

first Asian showroom ...in a fashionable Tokyo neighborhood,

Now I guess the next thing I need to look up is WHERE the showroom is. Too bad that wasn't included in the article.

I can't wait for then next two years to pass, so that I may be in a better position to buy one!!

And the Tesla has a range of about 300 miles on one charge. Plenty for a cos-play trip to Saitama and back.

Why not? I already have a luxury SUV and stationwagon for the kids and stuff so I wouldn't mind having one just for zipping around town or for pleasure drives around the country side.
