TOKYO —
Toyo Suisan Kaisha Ltd said Monday that it will raise the prices of 124 items of its home-use fresh noodle products by 3% to 7% on Sept 1 due to rises in flour prices and other costs. Of the total, the company will raise retail prices of 65 items, with a bag of three servings of Maruchan fried noodles to rise to 275 yen, up 10 yen, it said.
It will keep prices of 59 items unchanged but reduce their volumes. Both prices and volumes will change for 10 items.
In January, the major instant noodle maker raised the prices of 100 items but found the new hikes inevitable, after the government raised imported wheat prices in April and as surging oil prices have led to higher packaging and transportation costs, company officials said.
The company also said it will raise the prices of restaurant-use frozen noodle products and some of frozen food products in September.

Noodle/Food prices up,inflation up and cost of living up.
All these ,decrease purchasing power of yen, in japan.
Japan should buy more food from low inflation, food producing nations, outside japan, to keep cost of living down.

raja, you are absolutely correct,
"Japan should buy more food from low inflation, food producing nations, outside japan, to keep cost of living down."
But the Japanese government is a feeble network of old geezers and wrinkled cronies who think they can "export" their way back to prosperity. They simply haven't figured it out, that to save Japan's economy it must generate more domestic spending. Japan should be taking advantage of the dollar/yen ratio to flood the stores with wonderful products from overseas. But to do so would risk exposing the Japanese public to higher quality better products, at a cheaper price, than what domestic suppliers can offer. In short, the Japanese public is naive to what food products should really cost. Domestic companies have taken advantage of their consumers for years. Under the current economic conditions the Japanese are about to get a glimpse into "pandora's" box ! Amazing as to what they might find.

Huh? Japan's self sufficiency on wheat is barely 10%. They import bulk of their wheat from overseas including that of U.S. These manufacturer do not "rely" on domestic suppliers for their supplies.

Nigelboy, so what about butter ? Beer ? Beef ? California rice ? And why are the prices so jacked up ? Get real, a can of Budweiser doesn't cost 2 dollars in the states !
