Well, the first 4 places are from US, and hard to beat.

It is sad to hear Coca-Cola holds the top position! Many people avoid non-healthy soft drinks like that in our age and fortunately there are so many good substitutes. Who was asked for this ranking?!

Nokia finland is at 5th spot.

Japanese brand like Panasonic,Sony and others in competition, should copy Nokia.

Nokia not only make good products ,it also helped the poor in India/China/Indonesia be able to afford phones via their low cost models.

Japan brands need to emulate Nokia ways,in improvng sales for their brands. Japan Brands must also make products to make it affordable, for lower income people to afford things like mobile phones.

People buy products based on a company name in doing good humanity work, for the less well off in global society.

Some of money earned from sales of expensive products ,should be used to finance the low cost products for the low income earners.

Japan brands is avoiding this responsiblity and moving more towards high end products, for the higher income people only.

Microsoft brand also has done huge work via philantrophy of Bill/Mellinda gates foundation, which is number one,in terms of billions of dollars ,it spends on charity help work for the lower income.

Seems more like a brand recognition rating rather then a "best" anything. Although it is hard to beat the top names. But hey, where is MacD and KFC and Marlboro????? No mention of good ole US liquor either...

Germany also performed well with 11 companies, and France with 8. Japan had 7 in total.

Budweiser ranked 30th, McDonalds 6th, Marlboro 17th, KFC 61st, and Pizza Hut 79th.

Who was asked for this ranking?!

Pretty sure it's in terms of brand value...

Coca-cola don't only make unhealthy drinks either

Since these brands were ranked by Business week, it must be the Americans consumer's point of view. So it's natural that the American brands were ranked in top 4. In Europe or in other countries, I don't think "IBM", " Microsoft" and "GE" could be ranked in that high position.

As Tokyochris said, these brands are ranked by value. How they arrive at these goodwill-like values, I'm not sure. Sony being 29th is certainly a well known brand but its value is 1/6th that of Coke's.

"Toyota moved down by two notches to eighth place"

Extremely fortunate considering all their recent recalls, lawsuits against hidden defects, and most recent death of 4 Americans as their Toyota suddenly accelerated to speeds above 100 MPH only to leave the road in a ball of fire killing all inside, including a teenager ! Sad state of affairs at Toyota these days.
