Toyota still world best for car making despite 1000 jobs cut, in temporary global slowdown conditions.

If Toyota cuts jobs, maybe the local governments should reconsiders the tax breaks they gave to Toyota to set up local factories.

That would probably only promote more job losses.

Raid these guys for Pete's sake! Enough of the ENRON game Toyota. Your numbers make have zero sense.

Even Japan ERICSSON or Nippon Ericsson is going to cut jobs .... the list is already being done and submitted..... Its not only the contractors but the full time locals that are on this list.... The expats are to be exempted.

Cut the ridiculous bonuses and put the money towards jobs.

The bonuses HAVE been cut and all FT workers have been told this. They have made cutbacks in areas like flights, overtime hours... 1000 jobs isn't all that many considering how many people they employ worldwide.

Weasel, People dont need to be working 100 hours a week, slow down production, and lower wages so they can be dispered a little more fairly and then ride it out. It wont last forever. Let`s just wait and see if all these companies re-hire the numbers they let go. Doubt it. Lowering the price of cars might help too. Companies just want big money the fastest way they can get it.

tmarie,

Very true but nobody should be out of work. Cut Bonuses? Really? Every Japanese person I know working at a major company or Government office got a bonus in December. CEO`s and upper level management should be responsible for fixing these problems instead of just laying off all the time. I mean why did have these employees work like machines to pump out so much if the economic situation was becoming obvious months ago?

I meant, People don`t need to work 100 hours a week. Slow ...

What the hey is happening at Toyota ? 20 plus years of huge profits have suddenly gone up in smoke with the company slashing jobs at every level ! This is surely one of the biggest scams in modern business history... yes right up there with Enron, time to investigate.
