100s of thousands of toyotas not needed in 2009 due to high price, high energy costs, high steel costs, high raw material costs and other woes.

Katsuaki Watanabe's Toyota now will have less dollars to run toyota business. He must change to hybrid plug in toyotas,to promote low energy costs usage.

Toyota needs to convince buyers of savings in new plug in hybrids.

Consumers also need more informations,to understand and get used to the working, capability, care and maintenance of new hybrid plug in tech cars.

Watanabe's has difficult task ahead for toyota motors to undertake.

Toyota at least has the money to reinvest in research and development. The U.S. auto makers are going hat in hand to the government for $25 billion in low interest loans (@4%), because they are paying over 10% to borrow privately with their lousy credit ratings.

Plug-ins will not be a significant presence in the auto market for some time. It's not just the cost of the technology, but also the demand these vehicles will put on an already overburdened power grid. The infrastructure capacity will need to be upgraded.

Toyota s in serious trouble, as are all auto manufacturers. And you can thank the opec nations for the downturn. Americans simply dropped driving their cars this summer. They stayed home and enjoyed backyard BBQ's and local entertainment. Now sit back and watch as they refuse to buy new cars, whether they are fuel efficient or not. Americans will simply stop driving around as much. They did so in the past because gas was cheap. They will stop driving now because gas is expensive. It doesn't matter what car manufacturers do, Americans will curb driving habits before purchasing a new car. I see some serious issues for Toyota this year with their sales target numbers absolutely beyond approach !
