If you're going to shell out big bucks for a luxury car you might as well get a real one instead of a fancy Toyota.

When YEN kept soaring, when Japan kept stirring up assertiveness towards China.. When made-in-Japan is becoming less magic to call for a premium price tag ( numerous recalls ). Wishing Toyota good luck in their game plan.

    Good call, Toyota!

Please do not forget there are enough quality concious consumers here in US who refuse to buy any Toyota assembled in USA. Before purchasing my Toyota, I carfefully examined a VIN# to see if it was assembled in Japan. It was, so I bought it..My car always runs great. This is a big issue to me as well as to others. Thanks Toyota.

IMHO, the ES can't be put in the same class as BMW 3-series or Infinity G. Luxury FWD cars, no thanks.

@blackrock, I agree with you. I think ES-series are low end of LEXUS relative to Toyota Avalon, but people still fall for status. .

When will you people "GET" that status is why people purchase many items. Technically it may not be the best but the name is well known and people buy it and drive it because in their mind it is worth their hard earned money. That alone is enough for some people. You may think they are uninformed or even naive but the reality is that people will get what they feel is their representation of status. There are many who are hardcore believers in Toyota and they luxury brand Lexus. For some it's BMW, for others it Benz and for others it's an Audi or Volvo. Whatever reason that people have for choosing their personal favorite or status symbol they deserve to have it because they worked hard for their money and they should spend it on whatever they think is the best or the most luxurious or the most status oriented. That's the beauty of life and the freedom we are fortunate to have. One man's junk is another man's treasure. There are people who still feel that a Volkswagen Van is the coolest thing on earth. Bottom line is "whatever floats your boat."

Seriously? Do you know what entails "assembled in the US" now-a-days? Sometimes it's a simple as building the car in Japan, sending it to the US without the wheels on, then putting the wheels on in the US and selling it as "assembled in the US".

Japanese cars are not bad by any means, in fact, I think they are very well made (especially higher end ones) but it is NOT the same thing to drive a BMW as it is to drive that Lexus that looks like a Japanese BMW. All over the world, European brands are the ones desired.

    Wonder why that is...

Thats hilarious. What you really believe that Toyota's made in Japan are superior to Toyota's made elsewhere? You do realize that all Toyota plants world wide work the same way with the same equipment, standards, processes, and quality standards. Which is why oversea's Toyota plants send their employees to Japan for training and experience. Oh and maybe you should check out Toyota recalls there is an even spread of where they are from (Japan and overseas plants). Some people just get to hung up on Japanese quality without realising the reality.
