Toyota offers cash incentive to buyers for carrying ads on cars

TOKYO —

Toyota Motor Corp is testing a sales incentive program in which new buyers are paid 60,000 yen if they display advertising stickers of sponsor companies on their vehicles for 90 days. The program started Tuesday in Kanagawa Prefecture and Hokkaido involving 65 cars popular with young people, such as the bB wagon.

Toyota will stop accepting orders under the program when it sells 50 vehicles in Kanagawa and 15 in Hokkaido. To get the money, participants must drive “safely” more than 200 km a month. The first program of its kind by a Japanese automaker is expected to bring young people back to the auto market, according to Toyota officials.

Why not pay the amount for anyone driving a Toyota with any alternative to petrol driven engines? A much better idea given the slow suicide of this planet from dependency on this black muck. It's time for leadership to get serious on this transition as we just cannot afford any more dummies-as-leaders at the late stage, otherwise the entire planet is going to a cropless, barren Somalia... and soon

Incentivizing people to burn gasoline and pollute the atmosphere. That seems somewhat incongruous with all the messaging about Toyota’s concern for the environment on their website. Or is that just a load of hot air?

Nothing new here - there was a similar scheme in Europe 8 years ago, don't know if it is still going.

Next companies will be offering us X,000 yen to wear advertising on our bodies... wait, half of Japan is doing that for free! LV and other brands must love this place, free advertising everywhere.

Toyota king you've missed the free advertising boat.

Are people who can afford to buy cars so desperate for 6 man?

thepro, this program is aimed at young people. This segment wants to look cool (=drive a new car) without the full cost of it (=get as many discounts/benefits as you can). Yes, I suspect many people in this segment may opt for it.

If you go for this deal, choose the Altria sticker!

If it was 6man a month for the advertising, it would be tempting. Don't think I'd bother if it is just a one-off payment.

But as Sidwarwick points out, it is a strange campaign.. Here's some incentives for you to drive more and pollute more! A better campaign may be reducing the price of hybrids.

I think I read something about some american companies offering employees a deal where they to put company logo/ads on the cars in exchange for free fuel.

The quoted the cost for the vinyl stickers to be something like $3000/car. Which I think would cover most of the car including the windows partly.

But as was said, everytime you buy and wear/use a "brand" good you become a "FREE" advertising board for the company, except we get no kick-backs.

    Youdontknow

I drive 1000kms a WEEK and then some!

Toyota can give me money for advertising on my car too, but only if they don't mind the ads being on a Honda!! (^v^)b

I had an Toyota MR2 years ago that had a sticker blathering on about being the "perfect sporty car for a youthful man in dandyism".

Can I send my invoice to Toyota? or do I have to chase down the Dandys for that one??

60,000 yen if they display advertising stickers of sponsor companies on their vehicles for 90 days.

That is way too cheap rate for advertising.

Well I found that if they are going to advertise on my car I might as well get paid for it. So after some research I found a way to get free cash with car advertising. I just signed up for this one site and am now making upwards of $1,200 a month. It was the best choice I ever made with this bad economy. Check it out http://carads.chsmarket.com Good luck making free cash with car advertising.
