TOYOTA CITY —
Toyota Motor Corp said Tuesday that Toyota Motor Thailand Co (TMT), its automobile production and sales company in Thailand, will construct a new vehicle production plant to meet growing demand. With an investment of approximately 16.9 billion yen, the new plant, Gateway Plant No. 2, is scheduled to start operations in mid-2013 with an annual production capacity of approximately 70,000 units.
This, in addition to Gateway Plant No. 1, will result in a combined annual production capacity of 290,000 units at the two Gateway Plants.
In addition, through an additional investment of approximately 2.9 billion yen, Thai Auto Works Co Ltd (TAW) will resume production - temporarily halted since the end of May 2010 - at the end of 2012 with an annual production capacity of approximately 20,000 units.

Profit over patriotism. Another in the long line of factories being built overseas. I wonder when these companies will give the ol' excuse to totally get out of the Japanese market? Hmm...

It's not profit, but survivability. How can Toyota expect to sell in the US or anywhere else in the world when the current prices of materials, labor and taxes would be more than a luxury car's price tag?

If Toyota don't bring back quality and cars that oozes coolness then demand is going to go down. People are preferring Hyundai over Toyota for coolness and quality. The word on the street is Hyundai is the new Toyota and Honda.
