Not holding my breath just yet. Toyota has been waving that hybird mini-van carrot now for nearly four years.

If Toyota wants to acquire strategic market position they should deploy at least 1-2 hybrids in each vehicle types because just pruis and highlander hybrids are not enough for too long period. I am assuming lexus hybrids are not much popular than their gas only versions.

Does the world ever ask what will be done will all the batteries once the lifetime of the hybrid vehicle is over; can in future a company be forced to take back the battery pack for recycling.

Does the world care where the material for the batteries is coming from and one day calculate the environmental impact for overall manufacturing process of that vehicle into the the "green car" calculation.

Is this green car hybrid hype more than a well placed marketing stunt supported by the government.

The 'Sai', huh? Now if one puts 'Ku' in front of this name, you get....... 'Kusai'. Swell name for a car.

Weasel, where are you located? Toyota has the Estima hybrid in Japan.

On a moreマジnote, is the Prius w/the solar-paneled roof offered in Japan? IF so, any stats on the take rate?

  • homealone at 11:47 PM JST - 22nd August

    To Kwaabish:

Wouldn't the name 'Venza' be rendered into katakata as べンザ?

    Moderator: Back on topic please.

What is the difference SAI from mid size Toyota Camry Hybrid technology? They are about the same size car and probably use the same platform and use the same Camry 2.4 engine/hybrid engine? One thing about hybrid cars are that they are heavy and bulky in battery size. If they can produce a new generation of cost effective batteries that is of fraction of the size and weight, it might be accepted by consumers as a new efficient power source.

Stay clear of these Toyota hybrids, at least until they can explain their pricing policy on the batteries. The net is just full of accusations that Toyota is dumping these hybrids in the US and they are about to get taken to the WTO over it. They have delayed explaining the pricing details for months now and actually tried to offer the technology up to its competitors as ??? A bribe maybe ? Too funny.
