Toyota to resume hiring temp workers in Oct

NAGOYA —

Toyota Motor Corp said Tuesday it plans to hire about 800 temporary workers in October to meet production increases on the back of a gradual recovery of global vehicle sales. It is the first time in 16 months that Japan’s top automaker has hired temporary workers.

‘‘The decision to hire such contract employees reflects gradually recovering worldwide automobile sales, encouraged by tax-incentive and subsidy programs implemented in various countries starting in the spring of this year,’’ Toyota said in a statement. The fresh recruitment will center on former temporary workers at Toyota, it said.

This lead to a whole series of problems before with temp workers. Wouldn't it be better to hire a smaller amount of permanent employees?
