"eroding the repatriated profits" now this has always confused me. Is their some law that you have to bring back into the country all monies earned by overseas subsidiaries, especially as this could severely erode earnings , depending on the current exchange rates. I thought that was the one of the reasons for offshore banking ????? plus tax evasion of course.

@minello7 I imagine head office needs the money to cover the Group operating costs, pay its shareholders and make further capital investments in Japan.

Even Toyota, the strongest of Japanese exporters cannot withstand the effects of strong Yen. Why is BOJ still not supplying more Yen to weaken the Yen?
To weaken an already weak currency like US Dollar, the FED will be afraid of inflation & future inflation. But to weaken a strong currency like Yen, BOJ need not be fearful as Japan is facing chronic deflation. A weak Yen is needed to overcome deflation.
BOJ seems to forget that it is in charge of the printing Yen press. BOJ officials probably believe in suffering Japan until it hollow out....its called "harakiri".

Perfect example of the Killing off the Golden Goose right here, Japan will kill all it's industries before it realises that sitting on ones hands is not the answer to saving it's economy, Without exports this country has no economy to speak of.
PRINT THE MONEY ALREADY DAMN IT !

That's an extremely vulnerable situation, and is the reason why Japan needs to address its structural problems at home.
