Quite expected. At the moment, drivers are terrified by the name Toyota. Just afraid that some other j-auto makers do not follow Toyota in coming months, that will further hurt the TSE that is already jammed at 10,000 level.

some14some: the fear is that the Toyota flaw is in all makes using the same part by the same supplier. And Ford is no exception. Nissan has just recalled half a million units for it.

"Existing Toyota owners who buy another vehicle from the company will receive two years of free maintenance," Toyota said. Should this read "who trade for another vehicle from the company"? Wow! Guess the recession is truly over if we are back to two cars in every garage. Rented a Toyota on Saturday and loved it, but certainly wouldn't own a car in Tokyo.

""Ford had expected sales to climb from last February, when U.S. sales plummeted in the midst of the recession. Last month, its car sales climbed 54% as consumers continued to shop for more fuel-efficient vehicles. Like GM, Ford saw renewed demand from corporate fleet customers. Ford’s fleet sales surged 74% over February of last year, while GM’s jumped 114%."

Now if you want to talk about Ford, GM etc- fire away ! For example- and I quote; Ford Edge, Edge quality can't be beat by Nissan Murano or Mazda CX7" ! Those are facts people ! Ford- Drive One !

I would still by a Toyota. I feel their quality and craftsmanship is still impeccable. Look at how many Celiccas, Corollas, Supra Turbos, Camrys, etc. are still on the road that were purchased 10/15/20 years ago. Try to beat that Ford, GM or Chrysler.

Ooops, typo: buy instead of "by"

Anyone who has ever owned both knows that Nissan is the better built vehicle. Now after owning my '04 Explorer for over 5 years I know that Ford is the way to go!

Yes, go ahead, you are entitled to purchase whatever the market provides. What a shame the opposite can't be said for all those American companys that want to sell in "market controlled and closed" Japan.

"Toyota. I feel their quality and craftsmanship is still impeccable."

Hmm, seems someone has managed to miss the screaming headlines about Toyota and their world-wide 8.5 million recalls, congressional hearings, and massive numbers of deaths and injuries. As for me, I'll stick to my crummy Fords- one I put 225,000 miles on and it's still plugging along nicely- try to beat that Toyota, my understanding is thousands of your new 2010's are already in the shop for repairs ! Be safe people- Buy American !

Actually, the Japanese market is as open to American competition as the American market is to Japanese. Both countries have certain protectionist measures in place, but they are entirely equal.

How anyone can keep a straight face typing or saying this is beyond me...

I don't see what point you're trying to make.

That they are so very clearly not equal. Someone who would type that is either laughing to themselves when they type it or is just not knowledgable of the market...

Actually, if you do the research, you'll find the trade barriers between the two countries are very similar.

I have done the research. They are not.
