UCC Ueshima to acquire coffee shop chain Kohikan
TOKYO —
UCC Ueshima Coffee Co will buy an 89% equity stake in Tokyo-based coffee shop chain Kohikan on May 30. UCC Ueshima Coffee, based in Kobe, plans to eventually take full control of Kohikan.
Kohikan operates more than 350 coffee shops, mainly in Tokyo, while UCC operates a total of some 300 coffee shops in Japan and overseas. By acquiring Kohikan, UCC will speed up new coffee shop openings, aiming to boost the combined number of outlets to 1,000.

Never knew that coffee could actually be spoilt until I visited a Kohikan and any UCC supplied shop. The amount of undeclared low grade bean (ie Vietnamese) that goes into every cup is just too much to bare.
