Unilever Japan to raise tea prices for 1st time in decade
TOKYO —
Unilever Japan KK said Wednesday that it will raise prices of its 24 Lipton and Brooke Bond brand tea products by up to 6.6% on Sept 1. The Japanese unit of British-Dutch consumer product giant Unilever will increase the prices for the first time since June 1998.
The price hikes reflect surging market prices of tea leaves due to the unseasonable weather and rising packaging material costs amid soaring crude oil prices. The company does not set recommended retail prices, but the shop price for its mainstay product, Lipton Yellow Label containing 25 tea bags, is likely to go up some 20 yen to around 335 yen.

I predict a major revolt on the scale of the Boston Tea Party.
You don't "#&$ with a man's tea.

Unilever also makes soap products. Now I know where the taste of the tea comes from.

electric...Unilever 'makes' everything. So does P&G. Pretty sure not in the same factory, mate

Stanoue ... Of course I know. Still they might use some cleaning detergent for the tea factory. Sometimes the cleaning detergent is not removed completely by washing. It is a common problem in manufacturing food and drink products. So it sounded like a joke, but sometimes it (unfortunately) is not.
