Clothing retailer UNIQLO on Thursday announced plans to enter the German market and open a global flagship store in Berlin next spring.
The store will be located in Berlin’s popular Tauentzienstrasse shopping area, which is home to many international fashion and lifestyle brands.
UNIQLO, first established in Japan in 1984, currently has more than 1,200 stores across 14 countries worldwide. In Europe, the company operates 15 locations across three countries, having first launched in the UK in 2001, France in 2007 and Russia in 2010.
The UNIQLO store in Berlin will have a total sales floor area of approximately 2,700 square meters over three levels - ground floor, basement and first floor - and will offer the full line of men’s, women’s and kid’s clothing.

The prices and simple styles are why many foreigners like myself shop at UNIQLO in Japan. Unfortunately, for myself, the styles and colours have become effeminate in the mens' fashions. It's hard to find many mens' items of clothing in non-pastel colours or patterns - perhaps what the Japanese male looks for. Needless to say, the sizes are still not in line with European body types, i.e., longer limbs, wider girths, broader shoulders, etc., and if UNIQLO doesn't tailor it's clothing sizes to match European bodies, they may not find much business in Germany.

Make larger clothes please...

UNIQLO sizes might not fit common european body size? But it fits me and I'm quite happy to be able go to a UNIQLO shop to buy clothes to my size and not oversized or too long as is usually the case. At 175 cm I don't think I'm exceptionaly small... If they adapt up the sizes, please don't discard the actual sizes! Last time I went at London's UNIQLO there were plenty of buyers... But they probably won't sell as much in Europe if they don't add some bigger sizes...
