Well, having videos surface of using sick cows for slaughter and process ain't gonna convince any sensible person of the safety of U.S. beef. Show some progress then they can talk the talk.

There is no doubt that the claims about the safety of US beef is simply protectionism in disguise. However, I don't think there should be any moves to open up that market until the US Takes the lead in dropping those enormous subsidies to their local farmers. Subsidies that undermine the competitiveness of imported products putting US farmers at a supreme advantage. What ever happened to free trade???

do you mean like every other countries subsidizes its farmers? like Japan? maybe you should actually research something before just bashing the US.

U.S. - "anyone for a hot beef injection?"

Again? Japan has set conditions and the US has not met the conditions therefore haven't had their product allowed in. Anyone here in sales? Maybe I need to take Susan out for a few drinks to explain when you want to sell a product you need to meet the customer's specifications.

    usaexpat-

you are right about meeting the customers expectations but........its easy to see the Japanese claims for their conditions are bogus

this is about politics and money

it is all about money. The USA has a 20 month limit due to BSE, but they want everyone else to have no limit?

Many smaller firms would quickly change to be certified for the Japanese market, but the big beef producers won't allow it. Big beef and their lobbyiests couldn't have screwed it up any more.

Certify companies for Japanese export because U.S. Beef is not doing their job. A new importer system needs to be put in place with the US Gov/US Beef kept out of the loop.
