Pleas publish the full story. VW got pissed because Suzuki decided to buy 1.6 liter diesel engines from Fiat. Now only VW does not have such engines and the ones they have are for wider track cars. Suzuki makes very narrow cars and from an engineering point of view it was impossible for Suzuki to use VW engines so it went to Fiat and VW got pissed.

cnc:
I have problems following your argument that Volkswagen lacks 1.6 diesel engines.
Please have a look at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ListofVolkswagenGroupdiesel_engines
Then you can see a wide range of Diesel engines starting from 1.2 Liter (3 cylinders), via 1.4 Liter, 1.6 Liter, 1.9 Liter, 2.0 Liter, 2.5 Liter, 2.7 Liter, 3.0 Liter, 4.2 Liter, 5 Liter, and 6 Liter.
About your argument that Suzuki makes very narrow cars:
A recent VW Polo width is: 1650 mm
A recent VW Golf width is: 1779 mm
For a recent Suzuki Swift the width is: 1690 mm
The Suzuki Swift seems to be in between of Polo and Golf. So the car width of a Suzuki Swift is not "very narrow", but only between VW Polo and VW Golf.
Still it might be that the Volkswagen engine might needs modification to be adapted to the Suzuki Gearbox and power train.

Suzuki is fighting with their Indian partner too. Maybe they should just go back to motorcycles.
