Sorry, I no longer believe the "conservative" numbers being posted here at Japantoday. These mild price hikes is in reality turning into nothing more than major inflation ! Over the weeks we have been told that price hikes around 3-7% would take effect on a variety of goods. I then get to the supermarket or gas stand to find prices have almost doubled ! What gives ? How can JT keep getting it so wrong !

Well, it's not only here of course. SUV owners in the US are dumping their vehicles like crazy in the panic over $4 a gallon gas.

It's all around the world and has much less to do with supply than specualtors getting rich in the commodities markets (food and metals included) Nothing you can do about it except drive less.

"Nothing you can do about it except drive less."
If you're American you can vote Republican.
They are the only party that wants to start drilling for the oil we have in Alaska and off the coasts of California and Florida.Dems want and basically need high prices to sell their pathetic "liberal" nostrums about how only Big Gubmint can save you.
usaexpat at 11:56 PM JST - 2nd June
super delegate, I will be voting Republican but in terms of energy that only keeps it from being even worse. The dems would love to kill the economy at the alter of global warming so I would imagine that their thrilled with high gas prices as it may deprive people of driving. As for drilling etc. it's all well and good and should have been done sooner but it will take somewhere around 10 years to yield any benefits. As for my post above I would say if we regulated the enegry markets a bit better that would be the quickest route to easing gas prices.

The only problem with Republican delegate in the US is that he is a complete moron. Basically he will continue the un-republican wrong doings that Bush is known for.

Absolutely. I don't know how this regulation could be brought about. It would need the consensus of all major economic powers. But having a group of predators and profiteers control these markets is outrageous and a serious threat to global economies with always the poorer nations suffering first.

Ok, superdelegate, I've opened one up but I can't find the part that explains how an illegal and useless war in the middle east brings DOWN the price of oil. what page was that on? Oh, man! Looks like your next president and v.p. are going to be a black man and a woman! And dagnabit, Demicrats! You must be breaking out in hives!
