Go japan, just 13 percent decrease only in 2009.

13 percent decrease is not big deal, people can cope and focus on better future in 2010s.

Yen value also has incresed by 10 percent or more, that should increase yen buying power.

Actually the term 'bonus' is very misleading for people who have never worked for a Japanese firm. The so called bonus is actually part of your salary. Basically, a person's yearly salary is divided by 15 or 17 payments. 1 payment per month with the extra 3-5 months to be given out in the summer and winter.

A 13% decrease is a big deal, it's about Y100000. Similar cuts were imposed on summer bonuses, so that's a Y200000 pay cut for the year. Think of the reduction in consumer spending that entails. The Yen may have increased by 10%, but buying imports won't help domestic manufacturers.

    Deflationary spiral, here we come!

Which means everything is cheaper, long as you can keep your job.

Bonus is not a correct term. Japanese yearly salaries are divided by 14 or 16. To avoid taxes. The side affect is that companies can change the terms after you work. So expect your salary, well we don't have it now so, those 4 months are gone or decreased. A Japanese style pay cut. With the weak and timid just bowing and saying "OK". Never sign a contract that divides your salary by more than 12. Have Bonuses be real bonuses. Not part of your salary. Got to love Japan.

¥330000 a month salary. How can a family of four live on that?

They usually depend on the "Bonus" to make ends meet.

    > ¥330000 a month salary. How can a family of four live on that?

it really depends on where they live (and their life style of course).. since the housing is so expensive here, if they live in a big city, they are paying lots for the housing while people who live in Inaka (countryside) with parents/grandparents pay much less. 330000yen a month isn't a lot, but believe it or not, I'd say most young families are living on that if the wife isn't working.

Scrote- You say buying imports, won't help domestic manufacturers. So Japan wants others, just to buy their exports and help their manufacturers, while doing nothing for exporters from outside japan.

Fair is Fair. Do you think you can sell your arguments as fair.

Imports and exports must balance between all exporter Nations world wide, this is fair.
