...and the annual French joke on the Japanese marks another year.

  • thepro at 08:12 PM JST - 3rd November

down roughly 30 percent from last year amid the economic downturn, said Suntory Holdings Ltd.

    really??

This year’s Beaujolais Nouveau is said to be some of the best quality in 50 years thanks to good weather conditions for growth of grapes in the Beaujolais region in France, according to Suntory.

Well I guess they aren't going to say it's bad if they want to make money now are they?

2500 Yen? Seems it'd be cheaper to get a carton of grape juice and mix it with some vodka! I tried BN once at a party, horrible stuff passed of as wine in my opinion. Does anybody in France actually drink this swill or do they make it just to keep the Japanese juiced up in winter?

The french drink it bc there is nothing else at this time of year, and bc it's an old tradition, and bc it's about ¥200 a bottle. Only the Japanese would pay this price.

2,500 YEN!! wow. this is from this year? wow, the garbage that is passed on a quality wine here. Does it come from any estate? Table wine? AOC? For 2500Y you should almost get a free plane ticket to the estate to see it for yourself.

2,500 yen is around 25 usd per bottle. If you can get a plane ticket to France cheaper, please let us all know. As far as grape juice and vodka being cheaper.... yikes! I don't want to know what antifreeze you've been suckling down.
That being said, I think B.N tastes like piss and wouldn't drink it for 100 yen a bottle.

I like Beaujolais, it's a nice accopaniment to tomtoe and red meat dishes. That said it's table wine and what people pay in Japan and how it's viewed as a "fine wine" is proof the Japanese in general know nothing about wine. By the way a decent Beaujolais in the States is between $6 and $9 a bottel. Beaujolais is however far superior to the sickening sweet white wines that Japanese tend to drink.

Time to invite some impressionable young ladies to a Beaujolais party at Altria's house!

  • kirakira25 at 07:34 PM JST - 4th November

I`m with you Stirfry - this annual joke always puts a smile on my face!

I will buy a bottle of this wonderful drink to my good friends. I think it makes a nice and delicious heart-warming present for the winter days and will bring a smile and a naughty sparkle in their eyes. Healthy and classy, give this to the ones you appreciate.

"the French drink it bc there's nothing else this time of year"

Oh please! There's plenty of other wine in France this time of year. They drink a little BN to celebrate the new batch of wine, and ship the rest to Japan.
