By home-grown terrorist do you mean the US government terrorizing its own people?
In that case no, it's a serious issue as the government has become the most ruthless bully on the block.
Or if by home-grown terrorist you mean my neighbor who might blow me up one day, then no, I'm not afraid of him, nor do I want everybody stripped searched and video tapped simply because the government says that a terrorist might be hiding in the bushes.
The terrorists are our own government.

Canada is where the threat lies. The Air India bombing and acceptance of Tamil Tiger refugees have shown that Canada allows the establishment of terrorist groups on its soil, and its authorities won't hunt them down after their acts are committed. From Canada, getting into the US is very easy.

This isn't new. Just more distraction from the real problems we face.
As long as I can remember the FBI went after anyone with politics counter to the mainstream in the US. During the 80's often going after people who had issues with US policy in Central America. They painted these people as terrorists or as supporters of terrorists. When in reality most were just students who took issue with policies and tried to tell others about it.
It is just one more excuse to violate privacy and rights. Make a mountain out of a tiny pebble.

NeverSubmit - You are quite right - the terrorists are the US government and their staunch ally - the media.
The "War on Terror," is not a war, because a war must have an enemy and "Terror" is not a person or a group of people, but a way of fighting. For that reason, it can never be won. This campaign has terrorized millions, caused people to lose trust in their fellow humans on a massive scale, people of the Islamic faith in particular. It has wasted HUGE amounts of money needlessly spent on arms, military and "security systems," bringing the U.S.A. to the edge of bankruptcy.
Millions have been killed, injured and traumatized in Iraq, Afghanistan. Children have lost one or both parents and parents have lost their children. Cultures have been destroyed. Massive damage has been wreaked on buildings, many of historical value, property, cities and infrastructure.
For what?
The environment is more unstable and more unsafe than it was.
Police are using tazers and pepper sprays.
Guantanamo is still there.
And a massive, $662 billion defense bill that would require the military to hold suspected terrorists linked to al-Qaida or its affiliates, even those captured on U.S. soil, and detain some indefinitely has just been voted in.
The War on Terror just produces more terror.

As an American, I would say this. We don't need any Terrorist Organizations to support home-grown terrorism. You see, we do just fine by ourselves. There's a whole range of social issues that could spawn terrorism in America.
As far as security goes, I believe we have sacrificed our civil liberties for the sake of security. That's where OBL won. That man, all though I despise him and his methods, has woken America up to it's own government.
It's very clear now that the movie "RoboCop" was ahead of it time and an accurate depiction of America's now Corporate Government..
This topic is a minefield and one really has to be careful where you step. There could have been another way other than 9/11 to make Americans aware of what was happening overseas and domestically. What OBL did was totally in the wrong. Yet somewhere, in private rooms, beyond microphones and video cameras, are intelligent people who understand exactly how badly America was defeated. He successfully undermined the belief of the "Melting Pot" that we could all live in America in harmony.
You know what. I'm just going to cut it short. I can't keep this topic narrowed and limited to just the article.
Yes, it's overblown. It doesn't matter though. We can't go back to the way things were. We have to deal with it and adapt.

Right now if you're are behind in paying your school loans a swat team(department of education) will arrest you and terrorized your family. This happen in California and they arrested the wrong people. Or if you have a business that sells un-processed milk and cheese products through the mail. You can expect a raid and arrest by a swat team (department of agriculture) as happen to a Amish farm in Penn. More and more the Washington crowd is getting pretty scarely.
