Since the article mentions the Himalayas, I wonder why Tibet wasn't mentioned by name. The atrocities that have been perpetrated there and that are still ongoing are far worse than anything happening in small, uninhabited islands.

johninnaha, reality is no match for paranoia apparently. Also there is money to made in pandering to the paranoia, such as with moving U.S troops to Darwin citing this issue. There is no money in Tibet.

johninnaha John - regardless of what's happening now - look back into the true history of that idyllic Tibet - you'll find that what's going on now looks more like a nunnery compared to the atrocities inflicted by the upper caste Tibetans (including the Dalai Lama) on their lower caste slaves - and yes - slavery was alive and well in Tibet until China kicked his CIA kissing ass out.

As a US citizen - I'm frequently appalled at the brutally oppressive governments we support in the name of democracy.

I know what you're talking about. Tibet certainly does not have a spotless history.

But at least, it was Tibetans doing it to Tibetans.

The Chinese have no place there.
