Lets hope this story puts an end to all the conspiracy theories about how the US gov. is targetting Toyota just to increase sales of domestic brands. I for one am very concerned that Toyota will not get the grilling it deserves due to all the "brib" - I mean influence peddling it has done over the years. I would hope that many of these government officials are excused from duty as their positions are obviously compromised.

This article just goes to show how much money Toyota had to pay in kickbacks to get a foothold in America,And naming all the people that became rich through those kickbacks, now thats a new one.Now its payback time ,Toyota wants to collect, return the favours so to speak.

Now that the US government owns GM (aka Government Motors), things are a bit different, as Toyota is finding out.

Yeah, whatever. Fix the brake/accelerator/whatever it is problem. Redirect those lobbying/kickback/promotional/public relations efforts to China. America is so done, there's a new star economy to placate/co-opt.

branded -- nice thought, actually lasted about three posts/one hour. Then WilliB felt compelled to regurgitate the conspiracy theory for all of our benefit.

Any large company is going to have powerful political connections. That Toyota's connections can no longer save them shows the extent of the problems that they've put into their cars. You have to wonder how much damage this is going to do to Toyota. I don't think they are going to recover this year; or next.
