    So that is the main reason that the clunker was selected... a stimulus program for local industry. They could have had that cheaper.

    Japan is purchasing the "A" model. It seemed to me that over half of the stated problems in the program were specific to the "B" (VTOL) and "C" (Carrier-launched) models. A couple of problems that would be generic to all three models would be the problems with the helmet display system and a (classified) problem that is assumed to relate to the plane's stealthiness.

    The Truth Matters

    Call me biased but I would have went with the F-18s. They have a proven track record. Of course, I'm old fashioned. I still think the F-14 is the coolest bird the Navy ever flew.

    I'd have preferred the Typhoon myself - but you're right about the F-14 - beautiful plane.
