10-yr-old boy injured in hit-and-run in Shizuoka

SHIZUOKA —

A 10-year-old boy was injured in a hit-and-run incident Sunday in Yaizu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, police said.

According to police, the incident happened at around 4 p.m. when Masaaki Hidaka and his 10-year-old son Hideki were on their way home from shopping. The boy was struck by a white van. The boy appeared to be uninjured but complained that his head hurt after the accident. He was brought to the hospital and was found to have sustained severe head injuries, although doctors say he is in stable condition.

Yaizu police are investigating the incident as a hit-and-run, and are searching for the female driver of the van. Police say the woman stopped the vehicle and apologized repeatedly to Hideki before quickly driving away without giving her name or address.

Considering how narrow some of the streets can be, I'm not surprised. In spite of this, most people here are pretty good drivers though. Hope he gets better soon.

This has became something very common, indeed. Let's hope that the kid will get better.

So she stopped, apologized, then returned to the vehicle and the father never thought to get her license plate number? What am I missing here?

Hey, at least the woman apologized. Most hit-and-runners don't even do that.
