GW you haven't made an actual argument other than name calling. Shoes and clothing made in Asia are cheap, how "daft" can you be? You've made some pretty naieve assumptions about textiles and prostitution.

Ignorance of the law is not a defence. If I buy something of someone, it is my responsibility to ensure that the bought goods were themselves acquired by the seller thru legitimate means, otherwise at worst I am handling stolen goods and at best I get away with a warning and lose possession of the bought goods.

Right they could lose the property but its not like they would get arrested for unknowingly buying a stolen stereo.

Evil, they should have a special prison for these people

rjr, so...errr, have you then? been to Thailand that is? Would explain your defensiveness. you also forgot to say 'double standards' but I think that was the gist of your message anyway ne

If they legalize prostitution in Japan, I wonder if I could get hired as a government inspector?

Dogdog, you just confirmed what I just said. Prostitution is Japan is defined as coitus, and it's illegal. and of course, everybody does it. don't tell me you believe those girls were talking international law with the customers :)

    bottom line: legalize it

And foreplay to you is half a lager and a packet of crisps, right?

Use your imagination, there are various sexual acts which don't involve sticking it in and moving it up and down, all of those, when a financial transaction is involved, are often defined as prostitution, but not in Japan!!!

Moderator: Readers, no more discussion on the sex act.

I think that governments that keep a tight leash on such activities are doing the right thing.. this is the oldest trade in the book and a quick way for women to make money when forced into difficult situations. Now I don't personally think it's nice and I never use these facilities BUT I also see that if a woman needs money and a guy has urges (that may otherwise lead to rape etc etc) then in a goverment controlled environment.. everyone is a winner... government gets money as the workers pay tax, she also pays for regular government approved health checks (as in Singapore), the building is secure and the risk of the kidnap and rape of any young/drunk women or kids is (hopefully) lessened.

Sexuality is taking over the world; pimps are making big money and tax free. You can't detect them all but some are very shifty operators. Immigration should have a better control when young Thai girls come to Japan. Public should keep informing police and media when they see something like this cooking around. However, consider also the 'sex slavery' or even perhaps 'human trafficking.' 'SUCH PEOPLE SHOULD GET LIFE SENTENCE.'

glad to see the japanese legal system finally getting tough on human trafficking. i hope the yakuzas involved all get life sentences without parole.

Sexuality is taking over the world? You're kidding, right? Prostitution, drug use, drinking, gambling. There are more human vices and they aren't going to go away just because the government or church or anybody else says they should. As has been pointed out about the only way to control such activities is to make them legal, eliminate the abuse factors such as human trafficking and pimping (e.g. make the activities voluntary) and then tax the activity to pay for the social programs to help people get over their problems that get them into such things in the first place.

If you want to go after corruption that's one thing. But you're not going to get rid of human urges. It's been tried before and it's always failed.

I think if I were to walk into a whore house full of non-locals from poor countries or a sweat shop I wud be able to figure out whats what & not drop any $$ & report to the cops, although yr analogy of the sweat shop isnt very good since I doubt many shoppers do their buying there

Where were the Japanese who should have been arrested for this? Do people actually think these four Thai women were here on government visas, doing this all on their own? No way! They had definite help on this end, and probably the yakuza. But, as usual, the DOMESTIC side of this will be ignored and the whole issue will be placed on foreign heads.
