13-year-old boy detained over three arson cases in Ibaraki

IBARAKI —

Police on Thursday night took a 13-year-old boy into custody over a serial arson case in Sakuragawa City, Ibaraki Prefecture. Police said three arson cases were reported within a 100-meter radius area in a 20-minute period on Thursday night from 7:10 p.m.

A clothing shop, drugstore and 100-yen shop were torched, but nobody was injured and the fires were immediately extinguished. Police caught the boy near the last crime scene and he admitted to setting the fires, police said.
