I am surprised at the number of readers who think that kids who were corporally punished by their parents somehow do not commit crimes. I suspect that nearly all criminals have been brutalized in the name of punishment, and of those so punished who did not proceed to criminality have somehow done so in spite of their upbringing, and not because of it.

He had argued with his parents - but we do not know if his actions were the result of physical punishment. I would say that it is just as likely that it was as it wasn't.

14 is not too late for a turn-around, and I hope that he and his parents get the help that they apparently need.

For all the so called-hero like people on JT, personally I would not try to take down a 14 yr old kid with one or two knives for one accidental slash can be someone's artery.

I wouldn`t do this due to law in this country. Why to be accused for touching this poor boy and go to jail or pay him for hospital. By the way, if you know how to handle ( I know) it would be possible to make him down. Anyway some more guys with guts would be necessary, not alone

The funny thing about this was that apparently after the "hijack" he demanded that the bus go to Tokyo....when it was bound for Tokyo anyway!

I'heve taken the bus to Tokyo once... as uncomfortable as a cattle class plane (minus the anal probing) slow as molasse... I'd rather be stabbed than doing it again...

But 14 years old, Puberty! Hormones raging and he is Japanese. One of those short skirted girls with too much make up could just have shown him a breast(or 2 ;)) or her panties and he would have been a drooling wreck. You do not always need violence

the news said he got a girlfriend. The mother of the girl complained to the school because her daughter has a boyfriend. The school teacher then informed the parents of the boy that their son has a girlfriend. The boys parents got angry and told him to just die. He then hijacked a bus.

NHK said he was into demanding money from other students and also had a bad attitude toward the females. Then he clashed with his parents and bought two knives and hijacked a bus. Sound like another yakuza in the making.
